I have never really been interested in fighting. When I was younger, I trained taekwondo. It was good exercise, but I could not find anything spiritual in it. In school, I always heard about people like Mike Tyson and Conor McGregor, and sports like Boxing and MMA. But they seemed like blood sports to me, so I didn’t take much interest in them. After the pandemic, my taekwondo club closed, and I still hadn’t found the philosophical or spiritual knowledge that I wanted.
One day I was scrolling through Disney+ and stumbled across a Bruce Lee documentary called “Be Water”, and it was amazing. The story of Bruce Lee was so heartbreaking but also inspiring, his skill and knowledge was electrifying. There and then I knew what I was missing out on, Kung Fu was what I was looking for.
Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet Li. These were all names I heard growing up but never put a face to. Upon finishing the documentary I instantly Googled ‘kung fu near me’ and I found White Crane Kung Fu and Tai Chi. A day later I went to my first kung fu class and from there on out I was hooked. I finally found all the spiritual and philosophical meaning from martial arts that I always wanted. If you are considering joining I could not recommend it more. It will get you into shape, it will make you happier and it will change your life as it has mine.
