Kids Kung Fu
Class kicks off with a fun warm-up game to get the kids excited and ready to learn. The body of the class consists of some strength and conditioning exercises such as crunch sit-ups, push-ups, squats and pad work (punching and kicking hand pads), learning of techniques and some partner work. Class ends with another game and a short bit of meditation. It is a great and fun learning experience with lots of games and laughs. It gives them an understanding of the importance of fitness, self-defence and determination.

Adults Tai Chi
Students are eased into class with simple stretches and Qigong (Chinese word for breath work). About halfway through the class we do some partner work such as push hands (a gentle and slow exercise to practice deflecting punches). For the last 10-15 min we break off to do our patterns which are slow sequences of different movements which are the essence of Tai Chi as they bring together slow, deliberate movement and controlled breathing that get progressively more intricate as you advance in grade. Finally, we finish the class with meditation. Suang Yang Tai Chi teaches you lots of great eastern philosophies about longevity, vitality and healthy ageing. You will leave class feeling calm and peaceful.

Adults Kung Fu
Kung Fu begins with a good warm-up that will get you energised and ready to try some technique. Next, we practice some basic techniques like punching and blocking, which are then combined into more complex combos to test your body and mind. The practical implementation of these combos is explored with some partner exercises. Near the end of the class, we do pattern work which are fixed sets of movements that develop and improve specific areas of your body by focusing your learning on particular techniques such as correct stepping or proper punching. Every class ends with meditation to help calm your energy levels. It is an amazing and interesting experience that will not only teach you about your body but also your mind.

Sparring and Applications
This class is about testing out what you have learned from Kung Fu and Tai Chi. It starts with vigorous partner pad work, followed by a form of sparring called one step (a very slow, light and simple form of sparring designed to introduce you to sparring and develop your strategising in combat) and then we partner up for one minute rounds of full contact sparring. I know it might seem a bit frightening, but it is a fun and fantastic way to see how it is to fight using the white crane style.
Students must discuss with head coach Eddie Walsh before beginning sparring classes. Beginners will not participate in full contact sparring until about 6 – 8 weeks of one step sparring. Some limitations will remain in place for a few months after that, such as full contact sparring only with seniors students and not with junior students like yourself. We are proud to say that our sparring classes are incredibly respectful, inviting and above all, fun.
